1.Do
you like the extreme music in Germany in these times ? Stef:
Yes,
I like it very much, because I hate all the fucking trends
which are around this times, for example I don`t like that
kind of music called "True Metal", I think music
from the heart is always true, doesn`t matter which style
it is..... Another fact for me is that the most of the
modern Metal bands sound to poppy, because they use to
much keyboard sounds. There are some very good and popular
Thrash Metal bands in Germany for example Kreator or
Tankart. We are going to play one show together with
Tankart in November the 6th in Munich/Germany. At the
moment the Thrash Metal scene in Germany is growing, so I
think that this scene can get as big as in the late 80`s
again. Most of all I like Slayer, for me they are the
heaviest and most aggressive band in the world. 2.Armistice,
how this band was born: Stef:
Armistice
was "born" 1993 after two school friends started
to play their instruments: Stefan Paster on bass and
myself on guitar. We had a drumer who could`nt jam and of
course we had no singer. So it was not very easy for us to
get a perfect line up. Later came Manfred Hockauf, the
lead guiatrrist and joined the band after he met me at the
Iron Maiden concert in munich 1991. The next thing was
that Stefan Paster changed his bass with a drumset and we
kicked off our old drumer. Next who came in our band were
David Büttner on vocals and Stefano Casto on bass. Well,
the band was complete and we started to cover songs of
Metallica, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. At that moment we
had only one own song ready. The first concert was 1993 in
a small concert hall near Munich/Germany, in front of 200
people. A few months later we recorded our first demo and
it went sold out. We played many concerts until 1995, when
we went into a Munich studio and recorded our first Maxi
CD "Artful Killing". The CD was a great success
and brought us many fans and good contacts to some
magazines and fanzines. 1995 to 1996 we toured and played
nearly 30 concerts in Germany. 1997 we went again to
studio to record our next CD "Tied". This
recording was recorded in only 2 weeks. After release the
CD on BOOMERÄNG MUSIC PUBLISHING (Germany), we toured
again in Germany, this time only 20 concerts in Germany.
The first problems began: David Büttner left the band and
we could not find another singer, so I decided to do the
vocals, because I did the backgroundvocals since the
beginning and so it was the best solution for the band. And
here we are now: the new ARMISTICE with a new CD release
and new hope for the future........ 3.
On how many Festivals of music have you been presented in
Europe? Do you know the Wacken City in Germany? Stef:
We
played many Festivals since the beginning and many
concerts alone, too. I think about 20 Festivals and ca 70
concerts. But all only in Germany. We have played together
with many Metal bands since 1993, for example Reactor
(Germany) are good friends and toured with us 1997. I
think it is very important that bands help other bands, we
always do if we can.Yes, we know the Wacken Open Air here
in Germany, it is very popular but we never played there,
because it is big for little bands like
Armistice........ha,ha,ha... 4.
Do you have some video of the CD "Airraid" ? Stef:
I'm
sorry, but we have no videos about, pherhaps we are going
to do some if we sell some more CD`s, but at the moment:
no money for video !!!! 5.
Could you tell some anecdote of the recording of the CD
"Airraid" ? Stef:
Oh
yes, hahahaha.... I can: Well let me tell you, our drummer
had a few problems with his drumset and the recording
equipment, everytime we tried to record "Worse than
yesterday.." he broke down in the middle of the song.
I thought I must go crazy, cause we tried more than 20 or
30 times to record this fucking song. I was total pissed
of and started to giving him bad names and after another
broke down of the drums I found a plastic rattle-egg lying
on the ground of the studio, showed it our drummer and
said to him: "If you don`t make it right soon, we
will put this plastic egg right into your fucking
ass........hahaha".Well I think he thought about this
words, because a short time later the song was
recorded............The funny thing is that we gave the
studio (own studio of our lead guitarist Manfred) the name
of the plastic egg:
"Rattlesnake-Chickenshake"-Studio. 6.We
know that you have some contact to cuba, are you
interested in some concert in Latinoamerica? For example
Armistice in Caracas?
Stef:
W e
had contact to the Radio Station "Metallic
Avalanche" in Cuba, where one of our songs ("The
Ultimate War") reached the audienche radio charts on
position 3, but we never heard again of it, after sending
some CD`s for promotion......Yes, of course we are very,
very interested in concerts in Latinoamerica. The most
important thing for us is to play live, it doesn`t matter
in which part of the world. If you could help us, it would
be great to play in your country, too. Think about it. We
don`t must earn any money, because we all have good jobs.
Armistice in Caracas would be like a dream come true and I
think the good Metal people in your country/state would
enjoy listen to our German Thrash Metal....... 7.Do
you know the band Laberinto from Venezuela? The Band
resided in Amsterdam-NL for 6years. They mixed the Latin
rhythms with the Metal in a denominated style- Metalatino.
Stef: I'm
sorry, but I never have heard about a band called
Laberinto, but I will send you one more of our new CD`s
and it would be great if you could give it to Laberinto
and send me in trade one of their recordings........I`m
always interested in other bands, espescially when they
mix two such powerfull music styles like Heavy Metal and
Latin music. Maybe then I will know what Metalatino is. 8.Your
Opinion to the Love Parade in Berlin: Stef:
Oh
my god !! This event is very popular in Germany, but I
hate that kind of music........ In my eyes Techno is no
music, because music must be played by human beings and
not by a computer, a computer can`t make music.....The
Love Parade in Berlin is only a big commercial event where
the people listen to electric computer music, consume bad
drugs and make a lot of dust on the streets..... So, I
don`t need that shit !! 9.Why
is it so difficult for a german band to sign a contract
with Nuclear Blast or Century Media? What are the politics
of these German companies?
Stef:
It is difficult to get signed by Nuclear Blast or Century
Media, because they have already signed much bands and
they got nearly all kind of Metal bands..... so they are
always looking for new styles and bands and we don`t make
any new style: we play old school Thrash Metal........ 10.Your
opinion to the Nato in Kosova? Which opinion has Germany
to the fucking United States in the conflict?Stef: Well,
I think the only solution to end the conflict in Kosova is
to take away their old government and make a new
government. I know that many people say that it is not
right that the Nato is in Kosova, but someone has to end
the conflict until more civil people must die...... 11.
Some words for the fans from Caracas and Venezuela: We
have produced a Thrash Metal CD just for people like you,
the songs come deep from our hearts, we do the music we
like to hear. This is no commercial music !!! So it is
great that there are people on the other site of the world
who like to hear our music. Here in Germany not many
people like to hear our songs. For us it is very sad that
there are so much miles between Germany and Venezuela, but
maybe someday we will come to Caracas to show you that
there are still german bands who follow the music style of
Kreator, Sodom and Tankard.................. Thrash will
never die !!!! Dear people in Caracas and Venezuela,
please don`t forget the name ARMISTICE, we will do a new
CD next year and you can be sure that the Venezuela Scene
Report, Radio Metal Mania, Radio Veracruz Stereo and
Melomaniac Terror Fanzine will get it as fast as I can.
Thanks a lot for reading this interview !!! If you wanna
know more about Armistice, please visit our website:
www.armistice.de and please don`t forget to sign our
guestbook.....
Greetings
from Germany !!! Hope
to see you someday,
Stefan
